The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) encourages Metro Manila residents to access their digital National ID through the eGovPh app, citing high smartphone ownership in the capital region.
PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa said that with 90.6 percent of individuals aged 10 and above in the National Capital Region (NCR) owning a smartphone, the digital ID offers a “valid and sufficient” form of identification that is both easy and convenient to access.
The data come from the 2024 National Information and Communication Technology Household Survey.
“To all our registered persons who have a smartphone, your Digital National ID is ready to be accessed,” Mapa said.
“We encourage everyone to seize the opportunity to have a valid proof of identity on their smartphones, which they can access anytime for any transaction,” he said.
The digital National ID is already recognized for several transactions, including obtaining civil registry documents, processing late birth registrations, and verifying accounts on financial apps like GCash and Asia United Bank’s HelloMoney.
The PSA also noted that in August, both physical and digital National ID holders were granted free rides on the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) every Wednesday.
