Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority chief operating officer Mark Lapid added another achievement to his career after completing his Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
Lapid’s doctorate will be a crucial asset in furthering his impact at TIEZA as it deepens his understanding of strategic management and organizational leadership, both of which are critical in overseeing large-scale projects and managing the agency’s complex operations.
His doctorate complements his extensive professional experience, which includes his instrumental role in securing and overseeing P3.762 billion worth of infrastructure projects for the Philippine tourism sector since 2022.
Lapid has also pushed for innovative solutions to improve services and enhance efficiency. Among his key achievements is the launch of the Online Travel Tax Services System (OTTSS), which streamlines travel tax payments and applications for tax exemptions. This platform has increased accessibility and convenience for travelers, cementing TIEZA’s role as a forward-thinking government agency.
Under Lapid’s stewardship, TIEZA also played a significant role in promoting sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship. He championed the rehabilitation of iconic historic sites such as Rizal Park and Fort Santiago, ensuring that these landmarks are preserved for future generations while contributing to the country’s tourism appeal.
As COO, Lapid’s primary focus has always been on operational excellence, exemplified by his leadership in securing ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 9001:2015 certifications for TIEZA. His doctorate will reinforce these efforts, equipping him with the latest tools in business strategy and leadership.
Lapid’s educational journey is marked by a blend of local and international exposure. Prior to completing his doctorate, Lapid earned his Master of Management, majoring in Development Management, at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños. His academic foundation in business began with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree from the Angeles University Foundation. Furthering his expertise, he also pursued specialized leadership programs at renowned global institutions, including Stanford University and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, where he refined his skills in governance and public policy.
