PRECIOUS Cabuya set a new world record, propelling Team Philippines to a remarkable finish at the World Obstacle-OCR World Championships in Costa Rica.

Cabuya shattered her previous record with a stunning 31.389-second performance in the OCR 100-meter female event, securing the gold medal.

This achievement led the 21-member Philippine team to a total haul of 1 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals in a prestigious competition featuring top obstacle sport athletes from over 50 countries.

Cabuya’s record-breaking time surpassed her previous mark of 32.732 seconds, set during the 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.

Seven of the 21 athletes sent to the tournament with support from the Philippine Sports Commission made it to the podium.

Four claimed silver medals — Mark Julius Rodelas (OCR 100M Elite Male), Edris Dizon (OCR 100M Junior Boys), Trisha Del Rosario (OCR 100M Junior Girls), and Gavin Ti (OCR 100M Youth Boys).

Ahgie Radan earned bronze medals in the OCR 100M Elite Male category and the mixed relay team of Jose Mari De Castro, Ahgie Radan, Mecca Cortizano, and Cabuya in the OCR 100M Mixed Relay Team event.

Other notable performances included Kevn Pascua, who placed fourth in the OCR 100M Elite division, and Zara Chua, who finished fourth in the OCR 100M Youth Girls division.

“Our national athletes—Ninja, OCR Long and Short, and Youth—continue to excel in the World Obstacle arena. They are true heroes, in sports and in life,” said Atty. Alberto Agra, president of the Philippine Obstacle Sports Federation (POSF).

“POSF has always pursued excellence not just locally, but internationally. Our performance in the recently concluded OCR World Championships is a testament to this commitment and goal. What our national athletes have achieved shows that Filipinos can compete on the world stage. Now, we must broaden our base and create more opportunities.”

Agra added that they are working hard to reinstate obstacle sports in the SEA Games calendar and aim for its inclusion in the Asian Games as well.
