The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is actively engaged in extensive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) operations following the impact of Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon.
In line with the President’s instructions, the AFP is assisting Local Government Units (LGUs) and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in providing immediate needs to isolated areas, conducting Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA), and facilitating recovery and relief operations.
AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad said that the AFP has mobilized 71 Search, Rescue, and Retrieval (SRR) teams, comprising 1,882 personnel, along with 66 land assets, 10 water assets, and 1 air asset.
In addition, 557 SRR teams with 5,741 personnel, 428 land assets, 50 water assets, and 10 air assets are on standby alert to ensure readiness for further deployment as needed.
The Civil-Military Operations Coordinating Center (CMCC) has been activated to coordinate with government agencies, NGOs, and international humanitarian communities, ensuring continuous delivery of basic services, especially in severely affected areas.
“This collective effort and selfless sacrifices reflect the AFP’s commitment to aiding those affected by this disaster, demonstrating solidarity and compassion during these challenging times.” Trinidad said.
On Wednesday, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) also responded to the plight of residents affected by Typhoon Carina, rescuing 48 individuals trapped in floodwaters in Barangay Doña Imelda, Quezon City.
In coordination with the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the 520th Air Base Group and 505th Search and Rescue Group deployed Disaster Response personnel and equipment to the affected area.
Rescued residents were safely transported to the Barangay Evacuation Center using a PAF M35 truck.
