DENR partners with MAP to bolster Philippines’ climate action efforts

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has partnered with the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP), a 74-year-old business group, to enhance the nation’s climate initiatives.

On Friday, DENR and MAP signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen the country’s climate actions in line with international and national policies.

This partnership supports DENR’s key programs such as clean air, carbon emission inventory, solid waste management, the National Greening Program, and the 2024 Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which the Philippines will host.

“The MOU we signed today (Friday) is an affirmation of our shared commitment to pursuing the agenda of building a resilient Philippines and Asia-Pacific Region,” said Environment Secretary Maria Antonia Loyzaga.

The collaboration between DENR and MAP, a well-established management organization in the Philippines, aims to enhance efforts in achieving global climate goals.

Under the partnership, MAP will conduct information, education, and communication campaigns among its members and advocate for DENR’s major initiatives.

MAP, composed of 1,100 members including chief executive officers, chief operating officers, and other top executives from leading local and multinational companies, is expected to leverage its extensive industry experience to raise awareness about environmental issues.

The group will also hold general membership meetings where DENR representatives will provide insights and information on environmental topics.

The MOU sets the stage for the Philippines’ hosting of the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction from October 14 to 17, where MAP members will be encouraged to collaborate and participate actively.
