Sen. Risa Hontiveros on Monday told suspended Bamban Mayor Alice Guo to attend the next Senate hearing on Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) on Wednesday or face arrest.
“If she doesn’t honor the subpoena, the Senate is well within its rights to issue an arrest order,” Hontiveros said in a statement.
“Just attend the hearing to avoid any drama. Mayor Alice Guo, the truth will give you peace of mind,” she added.
Guo snubbed the last Senate hearing on June 26, saying in an “excuse letter” that her attendance at the previous hearings caused her “prolonged stress and high level of anxiety” due to the “malicious accusations thrown against her.
Due to this, the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality chaired by Hontiveros issued her a subpoena.
Despite warnings of a contempt charge and an arrest order, Guo will skip the next Senate hearing, according to her lawyer Stephen David.
Hontiveros and Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian repeatedly warned Guo that she will be arrested in case of her failure to show up.
