Charlie Dizon, Romnick Sarmenta big winners in Gawad Urian

Young actress Charlie Dizon and seasoned actor Romnick Sarmenta emerged victorious in the Best Actress and Best Actor categories, respectively, at the 47th edition of the Gawad Urian Awards held Saturday night at De La Salle University in Manila.

Charlie’s powerful performance in Third World Romance, propelled her to winning the coveted award surpassing fellow actresses Kathryn Bernardo, Gabby Padilla, and Max Eigenmann. The film further solidified its success with wins for Best Director (Dwein Baltazar), Best Music, and Best Production Design (Eero Yves Francisco).

Meanwhile, Romnick bested fellow nominees, including Carlo Aquino from Third World Romance, Cedrick Juan for GomBurZa, and Euwenn Mikaell Aleta of Firefly. His film, About Us But Not About Us, also scored a win for Best Screenplay, written and directed by Jun Robles Lana.

The Gawad Urian ceremony recognized the contributions of veteran actors as well. Ronnie Lazaro and Dolly de Leon, both recipients of Best Supporting Actor and Actress awards, respectively, also hailed from films that garnered recognition. 

Ronnie’s The Gospel of the Beast won Best Editing, while Dolly’s Iti Mapukpukaw (a critically acclaimed film featuring both Ronnie and Dolly) triumphed in the Best Picture, Best Animation, and Best Sound categories.

The prestigious Natatanging Gawad Urian award was bestowed upon veteran film and TV star Hilda Koronel.
