Benedict Cua, a content creator known for his lifestyle videos on YouTube, has recently gained attention after revealing in a video that he is now a father to a young boy named Aleck. Despite the polished appearance of his life in his videos, including his newly renovated home and his new role as a father, Cua discussed the long and arduous journey it took for him to get there.
In his vlog titled My life story: Becoming a father, the 31-year-old content creator recounted his humble beginnings, helping his parents sell slippers on the streets of Balintawak with his two siblings around the age of four.
As his parents continued to work long hours to provide for them, Cua tried out other ways to help his family, even trying out networking. He eventually began studying Business Management at the De La Salle University.
“Until now, I don’t know how my parents managed to get me into De La Salle University, considering how little we had at that time, which was almost nothing. They always just told us, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll take care of it. Your job is just to finish your studies.’ They never told us anything more. We just understood,” Cua said in the vernacular.
After finishing college quickly, Cua interned at Nestle, then worked as a corporate management trainee for nearly two years before becoming a key account executive for SM Supermarket & Savemore. Despite his career success, Cua realized that climbing the corporate ladder was not for him.
“It was my dream job but I quit it because I realized that dream job wasn’t my dream job anymore,” he admitted.
After submitting his resignation, Cua decided to help his parents with their small business for the next two years. Eventually, he began feeling lost because he no longer knew what he was doing with his life.
As he spent many nights wallowing in self-pity, he eventually came across the thought of finding his passion again. With that in mind, he decided to spend his weekends trying things out to see if it would ignite his passions.
This eventually led him to try out acting classes such as Peta Theater Acting and Star Magic Introductory workshops, which was where he discovered that he enjoyed expressing himself.
In one of his acting workshops, he met fellow content creator Baninay Bautista who often included him in her vlogs. Bautista ended up urging him to make his own YouTube channel and post his videos.
Giving himself a deadline of a year to see if there would be anything that would come out of the endeavor, Cua ended up religiously posting videos, which gained a lot of traction and led him to where he is now.
While his YouTube career also saw various ups and downs, Cua came to persevere and now intends to refocus his attention on being more appreciative of the things he has in his life.
Now a father of one, Cua is determined to be a hands-on father to his son and raise him in the best way that he can as he balances being a devoted dad while being a content creator.
“I may not have answers all the time, but I promise to seek guidance and be the best father that I can be,” said Cua to his son.
“I love you more than watermelons,” he added while shedding a few tears.
Cua rose to fame with his vlogs and other content, which sometimes features his fellow YouTube stars. His YouTube channel currently has 1.75 million subscribers as of writing.
