NBI nabs court employee for alleged bribery

The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday confirmed it has received a preliminary report from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regarding the arrest of an employee at Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 108.

The said employee allegedly accepted a P6-million bribe from a litigant in exchange for a favorable ruling in a pending civil case.

Citing the NBI report, the SC said that upon arrest, the unnamed court’s employee allegedly said “the exchange was upon the instruction of the Presiding Judge.”

Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, who was in Ormoc City, Leyte, for a caravan on the pilot implementation of the Office of the Regional Court Manager, has already ordered Court Administrator Raul B. Villanueva to investigate the matter.

The Chief Justice also required the Court Administrator to submit on Monday a report and his recommendation on the incident.
