Urban poor’s calvary

Emulating the passion of Jesus Christ shortly before his crucifixion, representatives of Metro Manila’s informal settlers stage a demonstration protest at the National Housing Authority compound in Quezon City to dramatize their endless struggle for decent homes. The event, dubbed ‘Ang Kalbaryo ng mga Maralita sa Sablay na Pabahay ng Gobyerno’ with a replica of a giant crown of thorns to boot, highlights the alleged inefficiency and disregard by concerned government agencies of their calls for ‘humane and affordable housing.’
