The University Philippines (UP) campus in Diliman, Quezon City is still the best place for higher learning in the country, according to the latest ranking of independent website EduRank.
The list was made public last Feb. 29 after analyzing 500,000 citations received by over 58,000 academic publications in 229 participating universities and colleges across the Philippines.
UP Diliman also placed 374th out of 5,380 higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Asian rankings (AR) and 1,367th out of 14,131 schools around the world (WR).
EduRank said UP Diliman ranked first based on its research output (8,902 academic publications and 91,432 citations), non-academic reputation, and the impact of its 81 notable alumni.
UP Diliman was noted for its programs in forensic science, broadcast journalism, and wildlife and fisheries and management conservation.
Also cracking the Top 5 in their respective order are De La Salle University (507th AR, 1,752nd WR); Ateneo de Manila University (565th AR, 1,931st WR); University of Santo Tomas (836th AR, 2,652nd WR); and UP Los Baños in Laguna (869th AR, 2,761st WR).
Rounding out the Top 10 are UP Manila (927th AR, 2,927th WR); University of San Carlos in Cebu (1,460th AR, 4,230th WR); Asian Institute of Management in Makati City (1,654th AR, 4,667th WR); Mapua University (1,669th AR, 4,696th WR); and Mindanao State University in Marawi (1,707th AR, 4,800 WR).
Taking the 11th to 20th spots are UP Visayas in Iloilo, Visayas State University, Silliman University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Central Luzon State University, University of Asia and the Pacific, De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, Adamson University, University of Mindanao, and University of the East in Manila.
American universities dominated the Top 10 list globally with Harvard University in the lead followed by Stanford University, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Cornell University, University of California-Berkeley, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Columbia University, University of Washington-Seattle, University of Oxford in England, and Johns Hopkins University.
University of Tokyo in Japan, meanwhile, was ranked no. 1 in Asia followed by Tsinghua University in Beijing, China; Kyoto University in Japan; Peking University also based in Beijing; and National University in Singapore.
