The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a magnitude-6.1 tectonic earthquake at 5:11 p.m. on Friday, which was traced some 149 kilometers southeast off the waters of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental.
Phivolcs said it occurred at a depth of 105 kilometers and registered a Level 4 instrumental intensity in Malungon, Sarangani. No damage is expected from this seismic event, but there will be aftershocks, according to the agency.
As of this posting, Phivolcs listed at least three aftershocks in the quake’s epicenter with magnitudes ranging from 2.1 to 2.5 from 5:20 p.m. to 5:32 p.m. The parameters of the earthquake also did not warrant an issuance of a tsunami warning, the agency said in a Viber message to reporters.
