At least 40 houses were destroyed when a fire broke out across Brgy. Tumana in Marikina City on Sunday morning.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) responded to the incident, which occurred just before 8 a.m., according to radio reports. It took nearly an hour for the firemen to extinguish the blaze.
Four people reportedly sustained injuries thereafter, including a fire volunteer.
The BFP is still investigating what caused the fire and assessing the amount of damage to the properties involved.
The Marikina Fire Station said 40 houses were affected by the fire, and 60 to 80 families were rendered homeless.
No casualties have been reported.
Reports said the fire started at 7:47 a.m. at a house located on A. Santos Street.
Authorities reported that because the houses in the area were made of light materials, the fire quickly spread.
Firemen were able to put the fire under control at 8:46 a.m.
Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro personally visited the area to check on the situation.
The local government unit promised to give financial assistance to the fire victims and extend help in rebuilding their homes.
