Over 120 Maya digital bank users reportedly lost thousands of funds in their e-wallet accounts, which is now the subject of an ongoing probe with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

According to the complainants, they started losing money in their accounts through unauthorized transactions between the last few days of December until early January.

In a report aired over TV Patrol Friday evening, Feb. 2, two women came forward to the authorities after losing more than P25,000 and P18,000 worth of funds in their respective e-wallet accounts.

At least 30 Maya users already reached out to the NBI in the hopes of getting their money back.

Lawyer Jeremy Lotoc, chief of the NBI Cybercrime Division, said they will summon the representatives from Maya to explain what happened.

In a statement, Maya assured its customers that they are thoroughly investigating these incidents and are taking appropriate measures to address them.

“We are aware of concerns raised on several social media posts regarding alleged unauthorized transactions last month,” the company said.

Maya also encouraged all its users to remain vigilant in their online transactions in light of this incident.

“Avoid clicking on unfamiliar links, safeguard your personal credentials, and steer clear of unlicensed online gambling sites, which could pose significant cybersecurity risks such as phishing,” it advised.
