Christmas will always be a favorite time of the year. Having said that, it’s also true that it usually is the busiest, sometimes utterly trying, and oftentimes the most anxiety-filled season for some of us, myself included.
Stepping back, I am aware that all these can be self-imposed burdens; if I don’t care about matters concerning my relationships and living, then there is nothing to worry about. However, most of us do care a lot even about the littlest things no matter how hard we try to “choose our battles.”
Despite all of these, I am grateful for moments of short breaks, when I can sit back and put things into perspective. I like what someone at work said to me: “Let’s make it work despite the hassles.” It’s true. Challenges will be there. There will always be a “hassle.” Patience will be tested. And often, cutting people some slack can be quite challenging especially when our vision is limited to our circumstances and interests.
This holiday season, I think I will try a little harder at this kindness thing, a word we easily throw around without really putting its meaning to heart. Our paths may intersect at some points in our lives, but we all have different stories.
It sounds cliché but we do know the struggles of those around us. We don’t have a firm grasp on what is going on inside their heads and hearts. It can be hard, but I’ll try to be gentler with my words and actions. Perhaps I will fail, and then try again.
