Navy erects new admin, research facility in Kalayaan

The Philippine Navy (PN) has inaugurated the new administrative and research facility at Kota Island in the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG), the Naval Public Affairs Office said.

In a statement released Tuesday, the Navy said the inauguration was done during the Christmas visits of Navy chief Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr. to remote island detachments from November 29 to 30.

The facility is “a typhoon-resilient structure symbolizing progress and serving as shelter for personnel and equipment on the island station,” the PN said.

Adaci visited the Philippines far-north islands of Basco and Itbayat in Batanes; Pag-asa and Kota islands in the KIG; and Taganak Island in Tawi-Tawi.

The sailors and marines in the other island stations and detachments were able to participate in the events and hear Adaci’s message virtually.

“These island stations and detachments are key and strategic features of the Philippine territory manned by dedicated PN personnel alongside other uniformed agencies,” the PN said.

Adaci thanked the troops in the remote island stations and boosted their morale as he expressed support for their efforts in protecting the Philippine territory and national interests.
