Red Ferrari car owner in trouble for bus lane use

The Land Transportation Office has issued a show-cause order against the foreigner-owner of a red Ferrari car that traversed the EDSA Bus Lane that is for the exclusive use of public utility buses, ambulances, and marked government vehicles for emergency purposes only.

The order also reminded the respondents that failure to submit the documentation required will be deemed by investigators and the LTO as a waiver of their rights to be heard and that their case will be decided based on existing evidence.

“We will not tolerate this kind of intrusion into road lanes that were assigned for the exclusive use of specific types of vehicles during the state of a national health emergency, which still exists today,” LTO chief Teofilo Guadiz III said.

The foreign national and the assigned van driver at the time of the incident were summoned by the office to appear at the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) at the agency’s central office in Quezon City on Oct. 24.

“The LTO does not and will not condone this wanton disregard for traffic laws, so the owner and driver have a lot of explaining to do. We will also make sure that the appropriate penalties are applied so this won’t happen again,” he added.

The driver was also directed to submit a written comment or explanation as to why he or she should not be administratively charged for Disregarding Traffic Sign (Sec. J (2), Title I, DOTC Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01).

The driver’s license could also be suspended or revoked “for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle as per Sec. 27(a) or Republic Act 4136.”
