MMDA chief warns penalty for use of unregistered personal vehicles

Chairman Romano Artes of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Wednesday warned his men they will be penalized administratively if they will be caught using unregistered personal vehicles and without the required license plate.

The MMDA chief came up with a memorandum in response to the Facebook post of Riders’ Safety Advocates of the Philippines (RSAP) that has gone viral on social media, showing an MMDA traffic enforcer identified as Wilfredo Ordoña driving a motorcycle without a license plate and turned out to be unregistered.

The video was taken on the northbound lane of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue near Boni Avenue last Monday.

Artes reminded MMDA personnel of their duties to the public, especially traffic enforcers tasked to apprehend motorists committing traffic violations.

He instructed lawyer Victor Maria Nuñez, director for Enforcement of MMDA Traffic Discipline Office (TDO), to penalize Ordoña, currently assigned at TDO Parking Management Team, by issuing traffic citation tickets for his violations.

“The MMDA is mandated to strictly implement traffic rules and regulations. Hence, we should lead by example,” Artes said.

Also, the MMDA chief reminded all employees to refrain from engaging in any unlawful activity.

“Violators will not only be issued the corresponding citation ticket but could also face administrative sanctions such as suspension and outright dismissal for contract of service personnel,” Artes stressed.

“If proven guilty, we will file the necessary administrative charges, whether permanent, casual, or on job order status, subject to applicable rules and regulations.”
