Sara leads by a mile for VP

Laylo survey gives her 60% rating, Sotto 19%, Pangilinan 9%, Ong 6%

Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte leads all other candidates for the position across various demographics, including economic class, gender and age, a nationwide survey of 15,450 likely voters shows.

The survey, conducted from Jan. 10 to 26 by Laylo Research, shows that Duterte was picked by 60 percent of respondents as their vice presidential candidate of choice, more than three times the 19 percent that chose the second-place candidate, Senate President Vicente Sotto III.

Senator Francis Pangilinan took 9 percent and Dr. Willie Ong got 6 percent.

Ana Maria Tabunda, Pulse Asia executive director, told ABS-CBN in a story posted on its news website that the survey firm has not seen such a big lead post-1986, raising question how Marcos became popular among Filipino voters, despite being out of public office since 2016.

In the same ABS-CBN story, political analyst Tony La Viña, a former dean of the Ateneo School of Government, said Marcos is leading because his campaign has projected him well to voters.

A whopping 65 percent from class ABC picked Duterte, 59 percent did the same from class D, while 61 percent also chose her in class E.

A high 62 percent of male survey respondents also chose Duterte, while females also showed solid support of 59 percent.

The Laylo Report also revealed the preferences of three age groups: 18 to 34, 35 to 54, and 55 and above.

The three groups all picked the Lakas-CMD chairperson with scores of 63 percent, 60 percent, and 57 percent, respectively.

The same report showed that Duterte had a comfortable lead over her rivals in terms of trust rating.

For the entire country, Duterte garnered a net trust rating of 56 percent, with her closest rival only mustering 18 percent.

Meanwhile, El Shaddai leader Mike Velarde on Sunday urged Filipinos to unite behind the country’s next set of leaders to be elected in May.

He told his followers that the message of hope and unity the UniTeam tandem of ex-senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has encouraged him to support them.

“The two have long been seeing me. It is time for us Filipinos to unite. After all, we have already given the rivals of Marcos the chance to govern for so many years. These two might do something good for the country. That’s why I have chosen them,” he said.

“They are open-minded and still young. It is high time for us Filipinos to unite,” he added.

The El Shaddai leader announced his endorsement of the Marcos-Duterte ticket during his group’s weekly prayer assembly last Saturday.
