Mass vax drive falls short of 5 million target

Some 1.3 million individuals—or only a little over a fifth of the 5 million target—were inoculated against COVID-19 during the third wave of the government’s mass vaccination drive “Bayanihan, Bakunahan.”

“For the past two days, we were able to vaccinate 1.3 million individuals,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said.

“This is short of the target of five million,” she added.

The mass vaccination drive, originally scheduled from February 10 to 11, was extended to February 18.

“We extended it so more people could get vaccinated,” Vergeire said.

Some 60.6 million Filipinos have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine so far, while 59.9 million have been fully vaccinated and 8 million have received booster shots.

Meanwhile, the City of Taguig has already vaccinated 861,288 individuals or 97 percent of its total population against COVID-19.

Local officials said 792,912 individuals or 90 percent of the total population have been fully vaccinated.

“Vaccination will continue until the last eligible Taguigeño gets protected,” said Mayor Lino Edgardo Cayetano.
