Leading broadcast company GMA Network earns for the country a nomination at the 59th Golden Nymph Awards of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival in Monaco through GMA News’ Justiis: Condominium Behind Bars—once again becoming the only Philippine news organization to be nominated this year.
Nominated in the TV News Items category, Justiis: Condominium Behind Bars is part of GMA News’ special nine-part investigative series on the malaise confronting the Philippines’ judicial system. ”Justiis’’ is a portmanteau of “justice” and “tiis,” a Filipino term that means to endure suffering and pain.
Reported by GMA News’ Emil Sumangil, the series witnessed the sorry state of the highly-congested Sta. Rosa City District Jail where female inmates had to endure the heat and the cramped space. To expand their sleeping quarters, the inmates resorted to “condominium”-type bed accommodations, boring large holes on the ceiling to create a top-level, makeshift floor.
Twenty-eight programs from 17 countries were officially selected to compete for Golden Nymph Awards across six news and fiction categories.
Now on its 59th year, the Monte-Carlo Television Festival celebrates the very best of television and delivers marketing and public relations opportunities to producers and distributors looking to access a large group of international print and on-camera journalists to promote and support their sales to worldwide broadcasters. The Golden Nymph Awards Ceremony will be held on June 18 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
