War on drugs should not end–Sotto

The war against illegal drugs, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said, should be continuing and perpetual.

“No such thing as FAILED or WON,” posted Sotto in his Twitter account, referring to the government’s campaign against the illicit drug trade.

He assailed as “epal” critics of the Duterte administration’s continuing war on illegal drugs.

“Ang dami kasing epal na hindi naman alam ang laban!” added Sotto, who served as chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Board during the time of the presidency of House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Sotto however clarified that his post was not specifically directed at the Ateneo School of Government which released on Friday an updated number of drug-related killings from Drug Archive, the academe—led database prepared by Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University and the University of the Philippines.

The database showed that the Duterte administration’s war on drugs has resulted in the deaths of more than 7,000 suspects.

“It’s my general statement to those who do not really know about the fight against illegal drugs and drug abuse,” he said.

“My fight and research on these issues started as early as 1988 kaya alam ko kung sino walang alam at meron at kung sino malamang ang mga sympathetic to users and therefore cloud their perspective,” also said Sotto, adding that his post is directed to those who say that the drug war has failed.

“The fight should never cease. It only fails if we stop fighting,” Sotto said.
