Amidst the sprawl of the historic Balara compound in Quezon City now sits a quaint, world-class cafeteria that services the needs of more than 2,000 employees of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), Maynilad, Manila Water and other agencies, as well as visitors to this iconic compound.
At the cafeteria’s formal opening, MWSS Administrator Reynaldo V. Velasco thanked its two concessionaires – Manila Water president Ferdinand de la Cruz and Maynilad president Ramoncito Fernandez, for providing facilities where employees can have a good dining experience surrounded by a lush forest and the attention-grabbing art deco architecture of the nearby modernized water filtration facilities from a halcyon era.
The cafeteria is a project of Manila Water, bestowed as an anniversary gift to MWSS, which celebrated its 140th anniversary last year. Maynilad, on the other hand, contributed to the construction of the nearby MWSS’ multi-purpose gymnasium.
Yam Cha seafood and dimsum restaurant is the caterer for the establishment. Owned by businessman Danny Te, Yam Cha dishes out seafood meals, various kinds of noodles, pork, and chicken, fish and beef.
