Colorful paintings will give life to the landscape along Pasig River which is undergoing river rehabilitation, the Metro Manila Development Authority said.

The MMDA said that murals on the Pasig River embankment is part of the “Pasig River Art for Urban Change Project (PRAUC) of the agency to provide pleasing eyesight for ferry passengers.

The project started last year and the second phase will begin within the first quarter of the coming year.

MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said the main activity for Phase II include painting of mural works on the retaining walls along the 27-kilometer stretch of the Pasig River.

The Phase project I has inspired MMDA to lobby for the approval of Phase II under the Pasig River Ferry Convergence Program which President Rodrigo Duterte has identified as a priority project.

Last year, murals were painted on nine pumping stations along Pasig River to highlight the importance of these structures in the flood mitigation efforts of the Metro.

International and local artists were commissioned to bring life to these structures through their original artwork under MMDA’s partnership with British Council and other private firms.

Other MMDA projects that received approval include Bikeway Development and Easement Recovery which are both scheduled for implementation on 2019 as well, Lim said.
