Catindig stamps class in soft tennis

Princess Catindig of San Beda University squeaked past Phrepoi Manahil of Thailand, 4-3 (4) in the Open singles then turned back the same Thai girl in the Junior singles’ division before towing the women’s team past Cambodia, 3-0, in the finals to become the most bemedalled soft netter in the just-concluded 2018 Philippine University Soft Tennis Invitationals at the Colegio San Agustin indoor hardcourts in San Jose Del Monte Bulacan.

In the Southeast Asia division team competitions, Dheo Talatayod and Mark Alcoseba nipped Yi Keavirak and Pel Vanny, 4-2, en route to a 2-1 victory to dethrone Cambodia in the men’s team competition.

Talatayod and Alcoseba shared the podium with teammates Kevin Mamawal, Mikof Manduriao and Joseph Arcilla, who won the men’s Open singles gold medal.

Catindig was joined by team captain Bien Zoleta, Denden Peralta, Jam Daquio, Khy Hitosis and Guia Arzaga for the gold medal in the women’s team event, while Cambodia pocketed silver and Malaysia took home bronze medal during the awarding ceremonies attended by Philippine Soft Tennis Association secretary general Joven Sepino.

Peralta and Daquio of University of Perpetual Help won the Open doubles, while Korea’s Gichan Shin and Deokwon Jo captured the Open doubles for men.

Cambodia’s Sarsarit Yi and Doeum Samsocheapherun took the gold in the junior boys’ doubles and Ela Javier with Mia Samson of San Beda prevailed in the junior girls’s doubles.
