SIARGAO, a tropical haven surrounded by white sand beaches waiting to be explored, a diverse aquatic wildlife and offering countless world-class left, right and long breaks including the famed Cloud 9, is about to be faced by a booming tourist population brought upon by the closure of Boracay.

The teardrop-shaped island hailed as the surfing capital of the country is in its defining stages for development, drawing world pros for international tournaments like the Siargao International Women’s Surfing Cup, sanctioned by the World Surf League for the very first time last May 2017.

Cloud 9 in Siargao is one of the best waves known in the local surfing community which features a perfect barreling right hand reef breaking on a very shallow reef and is not recommended for novices.

It is a relatively short wave guaranteed to barrel nearly the whole way guarantees satisfaction and is best on mid to high tides.

There’s no shortage of challenges for surfers both from the country and outside just like the Pacifico break that stands resolute with its force and speed that can hold large swells without dealing huge crowds in its lineup and Stimpy’s long left break that barrels in a shallow reef.

The nights are illuminated by countless bars and fire dancing beside the island with the 8th best wave globally and classified as a conservation area that is about to adapt Eco-Sep, a septic water management system technology that prevents contamination of wastewater in sewage systems.

Investors and businessmen alike have set their eye on developing Siargao, but with a more conscious effort to fashion it into a paradise island, a relatively untouched region which has always been part of its charm.
