Navotas gains seal of child-friendly local governance

The Regional Committee for the Welfare of Children has conferred the 2016 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance to Navotas City in recognition of its sustainable programs and projects for the welfare of children.

The city government, through the leadership of Mayor John Rey Tiangco, ensured that children’s rights to survival, development, protection and participation are upheld and given priority in planning, budgeting, legislation and delivery of services.

“Our children are the hope and future of our city. We should always protect and advocate for their rights and well-being,” Tiangco said.

The chief executive added that the child-friendly city seal of Navotas resulted from the concerted efforts of the city government’s employees, officials and stakeholders to make Navotas a child-sensitive community.

The SCFLG is given to LGUs that passed the Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit done by the Inter-Agency Monitoring Task Force composed of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Education, and Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Other Metro Manila cities have also received the seal. DILG-Navotas Director Sudi Valencia received the award on behalf of Tiangco and other city officials.
