Arellano U will bank on new recruits

A new batch of talented players are expected to rise from the ranks of the Arellano University Chiefs.

Now that four key players, led by Jiovani Jalalon, are no longer around, coach Jerry Codinera is turning to the team’s other veterans.

These veterans, led by Kent Salado, Allen Enriquez, Brylle Meca, Elie Ongolo-Ongolo and Lervin Flores will carry the fight for the Chiefs in the coming 93rd season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) men’s basketball tournament.

“We have addressed the adjustments that we needed to do after my seniors have graduates,” said Codinera.

Jalalon, Julius Cadavis and Donald Gumaru have graduated.

On the other hand, Fil-American Zach Nicholls decided to forego his final year, and opted to go to Guam instead.

One major adjustment involves 5’9 point guard Kent Salado.

Last season, Salado provided support to Jalalon, who was the Chiefs’ main offensive and director of plays on court.

With the two around, the Chiefs had little trouble reaching the finals of the Season 92 tournament.

With the two combining on court, they were able to stand their ground against the  San Beda Red Lions.

Team B players like Marvin Taywan, Levi de la Cruz, Renzil Rivera, Michael Canete, Richard Abanes, Archie Concepcion, Levi de la Cruz, Kraniel Viloria and  Arnie Padilla, a big man in residency will also be around to help out.

In the coming season, it will be up to coaching staff to find the best combination.
