Atonement for victims monitored by Pagcor

THE Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. has been closely monitoring Resorts World Manila’s efforts of atonement for the victims in the June 2 tragedy.

Of late, Pagcor said RWM had settled the hospital bills of all wounded victims and had given P500,000 cash assistance to each of them.

Pagcor also ensured that the families of those who perished in the tragedy would receive settlements tailored-fit to each family’s demands.

Included in RWM’s settlements were full scholarship grants for children from grade school to college and the assurance of a job at RWM once these scholars graduate.

With regard to safety and security concerns, RWM has complied with all the standards and requirements set by Pagcor.

“We now wish to focus our efforts on other equally important concerns—such as the 6,000 RWM gaming employees who fear losing their source of livelihood in the event that the company closes shop,” Pagcor said in a statement.

“If this happens, thousands of families may not be able to put food on the table or pay for amortizations and other basic needs like shelter, water, among others,” it said.

Apart from RWM’s 6,000 employees, thousands of employees of suppliers of goods and services may also be affected.

“The tragedy has happened. We cannot reverse the past so let us learn from this experience. Let us pray for the eternal rest of the departed victims and do our best to help their families,” Pagcor said.
