For the two young lovers—Dr. Mark Agas and Kara Gozali—jewelry is more than just a luxurious gift, it’s an untold story.
“Kara is truly a unique woman,” shares the handsome young doctor of his ladylove.
Apart from being blessed with good looks (and winning personalities to boot!), the two share similar dreams, striving to build successful life in medicine. A step ahead of his girlfriend, Agas is a resident ophthalmologist at St. Luke’s Medical Center. Gozali, on the other hand, is a medical student at the University of Santo Tomas.
“I guess what separates her from other women I met is her being exceptionally stunning; she remains grounded. She is genuine, kind-hearted, family-oriented, God-fearing, and she’s effortlessly fun to be with. She’s the perfect partner,” the dashing 30-something beams.
The feeling is mutual, and the PMAP (Professional Models Association of the Philippines) model shares her same glowing sentiments of her beau, “It’s honestly so hard to find someone who says things as it is with no filter. That’s why I found Mark to be very refreshing. Of course, he’s so good-looking too!” she chuckles.
Gozali recalls their memorable first meeting, and being intensely fascinated with the handsome, young man. “Our conversation was just so fluid. You could talk to him about anything and everything with no second thoughts,” she reveals.
Unlike other suitors who had pursued her, Agas carried himself with a quiet confidence and was a little old-fashioned, which she found endearing. “He was warm and treated me like a true gentleman (would). The world lacks men like Mark nowadays.”
From opening doors, sending her a quick good luck text before a big exam, or surprising her with a hot cup of coffee to fuel her through late-night study sessions, he never forgot to show his love and appreciation through the little things. But he has no qualms as well with surprising her with grand display of love—such as giving gifts of jewelry.
“Jewelry is special because it is personalized,” he shares, answering why he prefers gifting his love with a little luxury. “Jewelry that you bought 20 years ago will remain a classic piece 20, 30, or even a hundred years from now. It never gets old, because it transcends time.”
Unlike other tokens, jewelry entails a careful process of selection and consideration, which makes it such a thoughtful gift. “Whenever I give Kara jewelry, I won’t just pick any item. There always has to be a meaning behind every detail. That’s how you show your infinite and unique affection,” he shares.
Gozali has been showered with many such gifts and considers herself loved and lucky. “Jewelry, in my opinion, is a tangible representation of stories and memories. When Mark gives me jewelry and accessories, it makes me feel special. Contrary to what people think, jewelry is not an easy gift to give,” she explains. “No piece of jewelry is bought ‘just because’. There’s a story behind it, and knowing the reasons why that person chose that particular design is kind of romantic. It’s just like a storybook waiting to be told,” she shares.
Gozali loves the many trinkets that Agas has given her so far, and some of her favorites have been from Thomas Sabo. But as much as she loves receiving these gifts, Kara finds greater satisfaction in giving them. “In any relationship, communication is key, and I believe that jewelry is one form of it. It is symbolic and flattering at the same time. When one gives jewelry, you know that time and effort was spent choosing the ‘best one’,” she says. “Men, of course, don’t get minding getting watches and jewelry, too!” she laughs. Agas couldn’t agree more.
The giving of gifts isn’t about being materialistic, they both agree, but in making sure that your loved one feels appreciated. People tend to forget the power of a simple and thoughtful gift.
Indeed, love should be recognized and nurtured—not just with gifts, but with words of kindness, respect and affection. Dr. Mark Agas and Kara Gozali, in their sweet unfolding love story, have always made it a point to remind each other of just that.
Thomas Sabo is available at Power Plant Mall, Alabang Town Center, SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, TriNoma and Greenbelt 3.
