AS technology continues to move into a paperless society, different institutions are slowly adapting the idea of digital records' storage. Instead of having a stack of paper-based information of the consumer, a new way of storing one's data on the internet shows up, called blockchain.

A technology known for its distributed and shared ledger approach, blockchain has the potential to solve even some issues regarding electronic health records.

Blockchain has the characteristics of interoperability, unlike existing EHR software and systems that are proprietary assets as it is built on the principle of interoperability. That is, it welcomes interaction among different groups or enterprises and institutions (consortiums, in short) to collaborate in a secured ecosystem.

Another good thing about using blockchain is the empowerment of the patient. Some traditional EHR systems only confine their products to health service providers. Patients do not have access rights to all their records within the facility.

Adding to the possible solutions blockchain can provide is creating an ecosystem, wherein members of different institutions, businesses, healthcare professionals and patients have the ability to transact with one another but with the requirements of agreeing on one record of truth.

That's is why MediXserve, the country's pioneer in using blockchain, is creating streamlined, personalized and cost-effective healthcare ecosystems for much easier transactions of physical examination and consultation for Filipino patients.

As of now, MediXserve is aiming to fully integrate the universal medical records for better healthcare system by having different partners from the public and private health sectors.
