‘Miracle’ for 17 passenger

TACLOBAN CITY—In what investigators said was a minor miracle, 17 passengers of a mini-truck survived a plunge off a cliff on Saturday night at Brgy. Soro-soro, Maasin City, Southern Leyte.

The passengers just escaped with cuts and bruises after Demetrio Tewan Villegas Jr., 45, of Brgy. Aguiting, Kananga, Leyte, drove the Suzuki Multicab off the curb and down the cliff, the vehicle turning turtle several times, at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, according to witnesses.

According to the Maasin Police, the vehicle was travelling from Ormoc City going to Brgy. Hanginan, in Maasin on a pilgrimage. Upon reaching the scene of the accident, the driver lost control of the steering wheel as the mini-truck rolled off the cliff. 

The passengers were brought to Living Hope Hospital in Brgy. Isagani, Maasin for immediate medical treatment.
