Antique aims for SGLG award

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique—The province of Antique headed by Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao on Friday became the second local government unit assessed for the Seal of Good Local Governance Award.

Department of the Interior and Local Government-6 Assistant Regional Director Maria Sardua, who led the assessment team for Western Visayas, said Antique followed after Iloilo City.

Sardua said the SGLG Award was important since it allowed the recipient LGUs to receive the SGLG seal and the Performance Challenge Fund incentive. The seal would also open “other windows of opportunity,” she said.

In the regional team’s one-day assessment, they looked into the LGU being able to meet four core areas: Financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, and peace and order.

Culture and arts was an essential area the assessors looked into for Antique, since the province is known for producing musical and visual artists.

Sardua said that after the regional assessment, a national validation team would come to the province.  The SGLG Award result would be out by October, she added.
