QC centenarians get P100k award today

THE Quezon City Council has given Mayor Herbert Bautista the nod to award P100,000 each to the city’s 13 100-year-old residents today.

District 6 Councilor Roger Juan authored City Ordinance 2542-2016 to release P1.3 million as a reward to the 13 centenarians.

Those to be recognized are Eustaquia Farin, Otilla Uaje, Flaviana Balane, Martina Nava, Leticia Saycon, Marciana Cangas, Vivencia Huliganga, Anacleta Moncada, Mildred Pijuan, Gloria Navarro, Leoncia Alonzo, Antonina Caunan and Preciosa  Echavarria.

Apart from the city government’s grant, Republic Act 10868’s Section 2 “provides that all Filipinos who reach the age of 100 years old, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, shall be honored with a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines congratulating the celebrant for his or her longevity, and a centenarian gift in the amount of P100,000.”

The city’s Office for Senior Citizens Affairs said there are at least 126 centenarians residing in Quezon City, of which 102 are women.

At 109, the oldest living person in Quezon City is  Salamah Guiama Shalik of Barangay Culiat.
