SAN JUAN, the Rising City of Excellence in Metro Manila, will mark its annual Araw ng San Juan on March 27—its 110th founding anniversary—with physical exercises capped by an Awards Night for Outstanding San Juanenos.
The celebration begins with Zumba Exercises at 5.30 a.m. led by Mayor Guia G. Gomez on N. Domingo fronting Agora San Juan, with Meralco Volleyball players followed 30 minutes later by a Fun Ride by the city’s cyclists led by Sen. Joseph ‘JV’ Ejercito, himself a physical fitness buff.
Fifteen minutes later, there will be a Fun Run in the city’s major streets to be participated in by constituents of the city, City Government employees as well as residents and officials from the 21 barangays.
In the evening, the City Government, led by Mayor Guia G. Gomez, will hand out awards to:

“Araw ng San Juan” is a special non-working holiday in that part of Metro Manila as mandated in Republic Act (RA) 7669.
The holiday will effectively give those working or studying in San Juan a three-day weekend because it falls on a Monday.
RA 7669 became law in 1994, during the term of then-President Fidel Ramos.
San Juan became an independent municipality through Philippine Commission Act 1625, which was enacted in March 27, 1907.
The Philippine Commission served as a unicameral legislative body during the first two decades of American colonization.
