The treasurer of a local government in Sultan Kudarat and her husband were arrested in an anti-drug operation in General Santos City over the weekend.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency yesterday identified the suspects as Joy Nadar, 46, a treasurer of the Palimbang local government and her husband, Jojo Nadar, 42.

The couple, who allegedly had links to the Sogis drug group, was arrested in a raid by members of PDEA and the military’s Joint Task Force GenSan.

Seized from the two houses of the couple in Malasedo Phase 3 Subdivision, Barangay San Isidro and at Las Villas in Barangay City Heights were 50 grams of shabu, a rifle grenade and a .50 caliber machine gun.

Authorities also suspect that the treasurer was involved in corrupt practices based on cash liquidation documents seized during the raid.

PDEA said the Nadar couple may have used Palimbang town’s public funds in their drug transactions.

The suspects have denied the allegations, insisting that the drugs and other items seized from their houses were all planted.

They are facing charges for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and illegal possession of firearms.
