GENERAL TRIAS CITY—As part of the National Government’s campaign against illegal drugs, officials and government employees of this city recently took a surprise drug examination.

Mayor Antonio “Ony” Ferrer, who also had himself tested, said 13 officials and 730 employees of the city were instructed to participate in the drug testing conducted by Alana’s Care Laboratories and Diagnostic Center, Inc. Vice Mayor Morit Sison and the city councilors were part of the group.

Urine samples were taken from the participants, city Human Resource Department head Dennise Columna said. The activity “is part of the local government’s contribution to cleanse the locality from the proliferation of illegal drugs,” he added.

The random drug test is compliance with the Civil Service Commission order pursuant to the mandate of the 1987 Constitution and Administrative Code of 1987 to ensure the morale, efficiency, integrity, responsiveness, progressiveness and courtesy for drug free public office, Ferrer noted.

All employees and officials who will test positive will be properly sanctions as ordered by law.
