LINGAYEN—Pangasinan takes pride in once again being nominated for the annual National Quality Corn Achievers Award under the provincial category, which recognizes the performance of farmers in the corn industry.

“This is another important occasion for our province, and we are hoping to win the National Corn Achievers Awards this year,” said Nestor Batalla, Office of the Agriculturist staff, in his remarks during the evaluation at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center.

Evaluators from the Department of Agriculture spearheaded by Bureau of Agricultural Research Project Evaluation Officer IV Apolonia Mendoza, the chairman of the National Evaluation Team, commended the breakthrough of the corn industry in the province of Pangasinan. Dexter A. See

“Let us not also forget that we should prioritize rice production,” Mendoza added as she praised the agricultural production and development of Pangasinan.

This program aims to make Pangasinan as one of the major producers of high-grade yellow corn to support the province’s emerging livestock and to support the government’s thrust for food security and self-sufficiency with readily available alternative staple food for the community.

Furthermore, Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya stressed the accomplishments and programs of the provincial government to sustain the corn program during the presentation of records of the provincial corn program as evaluated by the DA representatives.

The awarding ceremony of National Corn Achievers Awards 2017 is set on September 28 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay, Metro Manila.

It can be recalled that the province bagged the National Corn Achiever Award for the 3rd time last year in Koronadal, South Cotabato and recently received its 4th Rice Achiever Award at the PICC on May 23. Pangasinan has been also elevated as Hall of Famer in 2015 after it bagged the rice production awards for three consecutive years – 2012, 2013 and 2014.
