P198-m Cagayan road starts
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan—Gov. Manuel N. Mamba and Department of Agriculture Regional Executive Director Lucrecio Alviar Jr. joined local officials during the recent groundbreaking of the Iraga, Solana-Bayabat farm to market road in Amulung West here.
With a P198-million budget under the Philippine Rural Development Project, the 20.25-kilometer road project is part of the Cagayan Development Agenda of Mamba’s administration. CAGANDA 2025 aims for the concreting of all provincial roads in the province and connecting towns and barangays through roadworks and bridges.
Alviar said the PDRP project was funded by the World Bank through the joint efforts of the DA Regional Field Office 02 and the Provincial Government of Cagayan.
The Iraga-to-Bayabat road is targeted to be completed in 16 months, Alviar said.
Farmers in Solana and Amulung are confident the FMR road traversing the barangays in their towns “will provide the necessary transportation infrastructure to boost the production and marketing activities of the province,” Mamba said.
“This project will help boost the economy of the locality and make it easier for the townspeople for easier transportation of their goods and products, and increase the market shares of farmers on other commodities, thus increasing their income,” the governor added.
Mayor Jenalyn P. Carag of Solana thanked the provincial government and the DA for the project.
“This FMR will be of great help to my fellow Solanians since this road network is essential in their means of livelihood and make it convenient for them in bringing their products to the town proper,” Carag said.
Amulung Mayor Nicanor de Leon said this is the biggest project brought to his town, and thanked the present administration for the farm-to-market road.
The implementation of the road projects under the PDRP “intends to underscore the importance of strict adherence to the laws, policies, processes and procedures of the government as set forth by the World Bank,” Alviar stressed.
The PDRP is six-year national project that aims to establish a modern, inclusive, value-chain, oriented and climate resilient agriculture and fisheries sector. It is implemented through the partnership of the DA, the World Bank and local government units.
