BALER, Aurora—In 1981, he was hired as a casual employee of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources office here. Now, he is the top DENR official in the province.

Nicomedes Claudio, the new provincial environment and natural resources officer or Penro, is replacing Joselito Blanco, who served for 13 months.

Claudio was previously the community environment and natural resources officer or Cenro of Casiguran town.

A native of Mt. Province, Claudio first worked as a DENR casual employee for two years. In 1983, he was permanently appointed as a forester.

Francisco Milla Jr., DENR regional director for Central Luzon, presided over the turn-over of Claudio and Blanco at the DENR provincial office in Barangay Pingit here.

Claudio said he was at first apprehensive that he might not be able to sustain the DENR’s gains achieved under Blanco’s watch. “But with your cooperation, I believe we can get the job done,” he told his colleagues.

Claudio, who served as Cenro-Casiguran on Jan. 4 last year, was replaced by Rolly Molato, previously assigned at the regional office in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

Milla stressed he was satisfied with Blanco’s performance, particularly with regards to land classification. He said there was nothing unusual in Blanco’s relief since of the 76 Penros across the country, only 32 were retained.

Milla called on DENR employees to do their jobs well and prove critics wrong.

Blanco said the province managed to post a 116-percent accomplishment in land distribution. He called on DENR employees to give Claudio the same support they have given him.
