MONTERO Sport reaffirmed its status as one of the year’s top Sports Utility Vehicles after being named Model of the Year, clinching the Auto Focus People’s Choice Awards Midsized SUV of the Year title.
Two special awards in the Media’s Choice category under the midsized SUV were also awarded to the Montero Sport, garnering the Best Safety Features and Best Engine Performance Media’s Choice awards.
Last year, MMPC launched the all-new Montero Sport, equipped with world’s first clean diesel engine.
The Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) clean diesel engine boasts of a low compression ratio, thus reducing fuel consumption, smoke and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions, as well as maximizing the output of the Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT).
Apart from the all-new 4N15 engine, this year’s MMPC introduced an upgraded Montero Sport with an improved innovative all-around safety features.
The top-of-the-line Montero Sport GT boasts of an array of safety features such as Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System, Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) System, Blind Spot Warning System, Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) Body, 7 SRS Airbags, Hill Descent Control, and Hill Start Assist, making the SUV even more desirable and a true winner in its class.
Since its introduction in the Philippine market, the Montero Sport, one of MMPC’s bestselling vehicles, has captured the market looking for a midsized SUV that will not only deliver great performance, but also flaunts superb styling.
Meanwhile, another bestselling model, the Mitsubishi Adventure also got the top spot on the model of the year MPV category.
Receiving the awards during the ceremony was MMPC’s FVP for Vehicle Sales and Marketing Froilan Dytianquin.

AFPCA is an annual awards program organized by Sunshine TV to recognize and commemorate the most preferred vehicle models of the public and media.
Winners of the model of the year were determined thru a public poll and total sales of that particular model.
A percentage weight factor of 80% was applied to total votes from the Public Poll, and 20% to Month-to-date Sales.
The official list of entries consisted of models from automotive manufacturers that are official members of Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines and the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors.
