Rebisco steadfast in its PH volleyball support

THE Rebisco PSL-Manila Team may have lost all its game in the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championships in Ust, Kamenogorsk in Kazakhstan.

But, their main sponsor and supporter isn’t keen on giving up on the newly formed national club squad.

They’re expected to remain intact and get more exposure in more international meets.

Lulu de la Pena, assistant vice president-marketing communications of  Rebisco Philippines made this assurance following the return of the Rebisco-PSL Team to the country.

“We are steadfast in our intent and desire to grow the sport and help support volleyball in the Philippines,” said de la Pena.

Rebisco-PSL ended their campaign by bowing to Vietin Bank, 13-25, 18-25, 15-25, to place 8th.

In that final game, Vietin wore down the Filipinas with excellent floor defense, ekeing 13 digs against Rebisco’s five.

The Rebisco Spikers led, 9-4, in the first set, displaying their individual skills and great defense.

But the Vietnamese soon caught up and  moved away, breaking an 18-all standoff to claim the set.

Filipino superstars Jaja Santiago had 17, while Gonzaga and Aby Marano each added 10 markers.

De la Pena said plans for more international stints are still in the pipeline for the squad.

“Marami pang effort. There is a strong collective push to grow the sport and improve on the performance of the players,” she said.

Rebisco PSL Manila is backed by Asics, Grand Sport and Turkish Airlines.

Love for the sport, according to de la Pena, is what drives Rebisco to continue its support for the national club team.

It all began with Rebisco president Jonathan Ng showing his support to the Ateneo Lady Eagles in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines five years ago.

From there, Rebisco provided logos of the Fudgee Bars to the Lady Eagles’ uniforms. Soon after, passion for helping women’s volleyball picked up when they were eventually asked to support the national club team.

“Malungkot nga lang na ‘di pa nananalo. Pero, marami pang effort ang kailangan dito and that is what we will do,” she vowed.
