While waiting for his next assignment in Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series, Team Lakay’s Jerry “Bokodian Warrior” Olsim is keeping himself busy.

The 24-year-old Baguio City native captured the silver medal when he represented the country in the 71 kg weight class in the East Asian Muay Thai Championship held in Hong Kong on 18 August.Olsim dropped a razor-thin decision loss to Rishita Rumesh of Sri Lanka, but for Olsim this will only help his quest to get that lucrative ONE Championship main roster contract.

“I’m happy because it’s an added experience for me. I may not be taking home the gold, but I’m happy cause I showed what I prepared for during training,” Olsim said.

“This will only help me in my career moving forward. The exposure and the knowledge that I’ll be getting will certainly be of use moving forward.”

It was just a few weeks ago when he saw his teammate Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang get his breakthrough after he dominated Anthony “The Antidote” Do in ONE Warrior Series 7.

With four straight wins in OWS, Olsim knows that his time to get that contract will come soon. That is why he works to become a better athlete each day.

In his final outing at OWS 6, Olsim gutted out a unanimous decision win over Myeong Gu Kim.

“I know the experience that I get here will only help me in my progress in ONE Warrior Series. Win or lose I’m getting something out of it,” Olsim shared.

“I never lack in training and the knowledge I get from coach Mark [Sangiao] and my teammates are overflowing, but it’s different when you’re competing,” he added.

While he waits for his next battle in OWS, Olsim looks for more chances to compete – it does not only help him but it is also a chance to bring glory to the Philippines.

“It’s a different feeling when you have the flag on your shoulders. This isn’t a chance that many can get,” Olsim said.

“Of course, it’s an amazing feeling to win and learn, but it’s much better when you’re raising the flag at the same time.”
