Eustaquio thankful for martial arts during trying times

Among all members of Team Lakay, Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio might be one of the most relaxed in the group.

But there are times when even Eustaquio goes through some rough stretches, where the pressures of everyday life hit him and the negativities creep into his mind.

What makes the former ONE Flyweight World Champion special, however, is how he deals with those difficult moments.

“I'm not perfect, I'm just a human being. I am thankful that I have God with me on my side and martial arts made me understand to focus on things that will make me a better person,” he explained.

For the 30-year-old Baguio City native, the battle will be won in the mindset of a person.

While it’s easier said than done, Eustaquio believes it’s all about finding that ‘inner peace’ and just sticking to it.

“Negativity is simply a state of mind. A martial artist will always have that inner peace and if you let that outside force get inside you, it will disturb your inner peace,” he continued.

“I also came up with the conclusion that dwelling on negativities will keep your pace slower, and it will destroy your focus on yourself.”

To get those bad thoughts out of his head, he simply goes to the Team Lakay facility in Baguio City and unleashes his frustration on the heavy bag.

It’s a simple response to what could be a potentially troublesome problem, and he is fortunate that does the trick.

“Besides being a martial artist, I just simply go in the gym and outbox those negativities,” he said. “Martial artists are blessed.”
