Sangiao elated as Team Lakay recovers footing

Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao believes that better days are back for Team Lakay following their clean sweep at ONE: ROOTS OF HONOR at the Mall of Asia Arena last Friday, 12 April.

Joshua “The Passion” Pacio and Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly dominated their respective opponents en route to impressive stoppage victories.

Pacio successfully reclaimed his ONE Strawweight World Title after he knocked out Yosuke “The Ninja” Saruta in the fourth round while Kelly imposed his superior strength over Sung Jong Lee of South Korea resulting to a second-round TKO win.

After losing all four World Titles in the first quarter of the year, Team Lakay is back to high spirits despite learning their lessons the hard way.

“This is where we start again. Joshua was the first to lose and he was also the first one to retain,” said Sangiao.

“We’re praying that we continue our winning ways. Rest assured we’ll do everything to get our belts back,” he added.

What makes him proud the most is not with the results, but it is with how his team reacted in their recent struggles.

“They were always motivated. That’s why they call us the king of rematches. We see our past mistakes and we evaluate ourselves,” said Sangiao.

Now, he believes that it's only a matter of time before Team Lakay makes it back on top of the world again.

With his continuous guidance, Sangiao is confident that the country’s top martial arts stable is on its way to collecting more achievements in the future.

“I’m always here to guide them, to show them their mistakes so that whatever needs to be worked on gets addressed.”
