It's sister act for the Philippines in the soft tennis competition of the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center on Sunday.
After winning the women’s singles last Saturday, Noelle Conchita Corazon Manalac combined with sister Noelle Nikki Camille Zoleta to annex the women’s doubles gold.
Manalac beat Kawengai Anadeleyda of Indonesia, 4-2, for the singles’ crown and then combined with her younger sister to beat Sawitre Naree and Natchatjira Kerdsomboon of Thailand 5-0 in doubles play.
The doubles gold became doubly special because it was the 100th gold won by the Philippines.
The sisters were former tennis players who later moved to soft tennis. The sport was first played in the SEA Games in 2011.
“It’s very historic. Another gold for soft tennis. First gold in women’s doubles. I’m so happy that I and my sister gave honor to the country,” said Manalac.
The sisters swept Group B by beating Laos, 5-0, and Cambodia, 5-0, to set up the gold medal match against Thailand.
