PSC, POC set up SEA Games working group

An executive board and working group is set to take over the daily preparations for the 30th Southeast Asian Games, now that it is on its final stages.

With Philippine Sports Commission chairman William Ramirez expected to take a front and center role, the board will tackle the many details that need to be addressed as the opening day of the biennial meet approaches.

“We are now making adjustments,” said Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee chairman and House Speaker Allan Peter Cayetano following a series of meetings at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The board headed by Ramirez will be composed of representatives of the Phisgoc and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

On the other hand, Ramirez will also coordinate with the working group of Monica Mitra and PSC deputy executive director Guillermo Iroy.

Cayetano explained that they are forming a new group within the Phisgoc to address certain issues should situations involving venues, equipment and accommodation which may arise during the meet set to be staged from Nov. 30 to Dec. 10.

The solon from Taguig explained issues involving the Games have arisen because the Games budget of around P6-billion was released four months late. Questions concerning the procurement need to be addressed. 

Of the budget that has been released, around P441-million has been allocated for sports equipment.

PSC officials said requests for equipment from the various national sports associations are continuously being addressed.
