POC to help PSC disburse funds for SEA Games

The Philippine Olympic Committee will assist the Philippine Sports Commission in disbursing the funds that have been allocated for the running of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

The executive committee of the POC made this revision in their tripartite agreement for the third time with the PSC and the Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee.

“We will help, and we will help in the liquidation. And so, there is no delay in the preparation for the SEA Games,” said POC president Abraham Tolentino following a meeting yesterday at the Golden Bay Restaurant in Macapagal Ave.

Last month, the agreement was put in place to help the PSC in quickly releasing and proving full assistance to the operations of the PHISGOC.

With a budget of P6-billion that is under the care of the government sports agency, organizers will be able to tackle its many obligations during the Games when it is held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 10.

POC secretary general Edwin Gastanes said that in the second revision of the pact, focus was on procurement of sports equipment that will be used in the competitions of the biennial meet.

This, amendments concerning hotel accommodations, food, catering and personnel services were added.

“Hotel, food, personnel services. Why limit to equipment?” said Tolentino.

In the first agreement that was not signed, the PHISGOC was obligated to submit reports on its financial activities to the PSC and the POC, and turn over excess funds that it has in its possession.

In the second agreement that officials signed last August, the POC will now just monitor the activities of the PHISGOC, the technical aspect of the Games, oversee its expenditures and marketing activities.

The tripartite agreement, whose signing was delayed because of the many issues hounding the Philippines’ hosting of the Games, contains the duties of the different organizations involved as well as expectations from them.

The PSC, as per the agreement, is primarily in charge of the disbursement of funds, and this is pursuant to the General Appropriations Act of 2019.
