Alphaland hosts Orbe rapid chess tournament

The Orbe Fide-Rated Open Rapid Chess Championships will unfurl on June 15 at the third floor Alphaland Southgate Mall, near MRT Magallanes Station, Edsa, Makati City.

National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) director lawyer Cliburn Anthony Orbe bared this in a recent interview.

Orbe said with a registration fee of P500 (P200 for Under-14), chess players will have a chance to compete in a Fide-Rated chess tournament that will draw participants from nearby provinces.

“I have confirmed participants from Metro Manila and nearby provinces,” Orbe said, adding that NCFP, Fide and the Metro Iligan Chess Club joined forces to make the event possible being held to coincide with the birthday celebration of Orbe.

The champion will pocket P10,000 while the next fourth placers will take home P7,000, P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.

The sixth to 10th placers, meanwhile, will each claim a P1,000 consolation prize.

A special prize of P1,000 will also be awarded to top lady, senior, top non-master, top junior (15-20), top kiddies (Under 14), top executive, top unrated and top under 1900. 

Meanwhile, New Zealand based Jun Isaac, elder brother of ex-PBA player Leo Isaac is setting his sight in competing 2019 National Seniors Chess Championships to be held on Monday, May 27-31 at the Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence (PACE) No. 56 Mindanao Avenue in Project 6, Quezon City.

“I hope to do well in the 2019 National Seniors Chess Championships,” said Jun, a former player of the Philippine National Police chess team.

The 2019 National Chess Championships for Untitled Players, 2000 Below Elo for Open & 1900 Below for Women gets going on Monday at the same venue.
