POC head hails Mikee’s appointment

Philippine Olympic Committee president Ricky Vargas yesterday sent her congratulations to Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski.

Cojuangco-Jaworski, an International Olympic Committee member from the Philippines, has been named to four key posts from within the IOC hierarchy.

“This underscores the respect that the Olympic body has for her competence and initiatives. The POC joins the nation in wishing her well in her new responsibilities. Mabuhay!,” said Vargas.

The Education commission is a body that advises the IOC Session, the IOC Executive Board and the IOC President on the promotion of Olympic values-based education, and provides strategic direction on IOC programs and activities related to the education of youth through sport.

She is among three women who were given appointments by the IOC, and was named as president of the Commission for Olympic Education.

The IOC has added three female chairpersons in their 27-member commissions.

The IOC Coordination Commission for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, will be chaired by Nicole Hoevertsz, IOC Member in Aruba and a member of the IOC Executive Board. She is a former synchronised swimmer who competed at the Olympic Games Los Angeles 1984,

Sari Miriam Essayah, a Finnish retired race walker and a politician, is the chair for Sport and Active Society.

Since 2013, as a result of Olympic Agenda 2020, female participation in the IOC commissions has more than doubled.

Among the other new chairs who ave been appointed for the following six IOC commissions are: Richard L. Carrión for the Olympic Channel, Jiri Kejval for Marketing, Robin E. Mitchell for Olympic Solidarity, and Luis Alberto Moreno for Public Affairs and Social Development through Sport.
